Pricing and Piece Count
Your custom order’s price and piece count will be calculated based on its size, specifically the total area of the puzzle’s “blank”. This is its width times its height if the design is a rectangular one, or the width times height of the design’s rectangular “bounding box” if the puzzle features a Bohemian edge.

The pricing for custom orders is $2 per square inch of total area, and your order will normally be cut to our standard of 2 pieces per square inch. If you have a specific request that requires a higher or lower piece density, pricing may vary. As with all Smyth Puzzles, free tracked shipping is included.

Choosing an Image
We’re happy to accept your own custom puzzle designs, but there are a few things you should know to help you decide on just the right image.

First, in order for your puzzle to look its best, the image needs to be at a high enough resolution for printing. The exact resolution will depend on your desired size for the puzzle, but in general a resolution of at least 300 pixels per inch (PPI) is preferred. At minimum, we recommend that you avoid designs below 200 PPI, as they are likely to appear blurry or “pixelated” in print.

This means that, for a 10" x 8" puzzle, we recommend the image be 2000 x 1600 pixels at minimum and preferably 3000 x 2400 pixels or larger. Note that expanding a low-resolution image in a paint program does nothing to improve its quality for printing; the image file itself simply doesn’t have enough information in it. If you’re unsure what resolution your image is, please let us know and we’ll be happy to find out for you!

Also, while we’d love to offer you the opportunity to style puzzles on anything you like, for legal reasons we cannot produce custom orders based on copyrighted images without a license. That means no stills, logos, or promotional images from movies, TV, books, video games, or other types of copyrighted media. We ask that you please only provide images you have the legal right to use, as we will refuse your order if we have reason to believe that you do not have those rights.
